Improved Air Quality in Southern California Means Less Symptoms of Bronchitis in Children
Southern California has a reputation for having bad air quality which is a concern for families who wish they could move to beautiful SoCal, but fear that their children with respiratory conditions will suffer increased symptoms. These families will be happy to know that they can come over tomorrow and start enjoying the benefits of living in Southern California whose air quality has actually been improving gradually in the last 24 years. Air pollution, which makes respiratory symptoms worse, has been steadily decreasing since 1992 when many policies promoting cleaner air started taking effect. The results of a recent cohort study, published on medicalnewstoday.com, followed the same group of children from 1993 to 2001 revealed that that 32 percent of the children with asthma had fewer symptoms over time as the area’s air quality improved. This study, which also followed children who didn’t have the disease, noted a 21 percent decrease in initial respiratory symptoms.
