New Guide for Prescribing Exercise for Chronic Health Conditions
Source: Go Red For Women
Canadian Medical Association Journal has released a guide for prescribing exercise as medicine for chronic illnesses, arguing that exercise is often just as effective as drugs or surgery, and with less potential side effects. The journal points out a current lack of training in the practice among physicians, a lack of knowledge of exercise’s medical effectiveness among patients and doctors, and no well-written prescription standards. The guide features exercises presented by type of illness, type of health care provider required to administer each prescribed exercise, necessary materials, and medical benefits to be expected.
