Is Fruit Juice Really That Healthy?
Many health conscious people have given up on their beloved soda brands to dodge the risks associated with increased sugar consumption and stick with fruit juice and herbal teas to get their daily fluid intake. If you are among them, you may want to rethink your beverage choices.
Research shows that fruit juice is a major contributor to metabolic syndrome – the first step towards diabetes and a contributing factor of obesity. All the natural sugars found in the whole fruit lose their liver-protecting bond-mate of the fruit’s fiber content and become ‘free fructose’. In juice form, they still retain some of the beneficial minerals and vitamins, but without the fiber, they become a major contributor towards metabolic syndrome – the first step towards diabetes and a contributing factor to obesity. Some hospitals are even responding by pulling fruit juice out of their pantry to protect the health of their patients.
