Surprising Health Benefits of Common Popular Foods
Source: Dish Maps
Eating healthy foods is easier and more cost effective than some of us realize. A popular medical magazine recently published an alphabetical list of foods that are easy to find at any supermarket, with specific health benefits of eating each food. The list varies from almonds, which supply vitamin E, copper, magnesium, quality protein, and healthy unsaturated fatty acids, and can prevent cardiovascular disease, cancer, and improve longevity, to watermelon, which contains – count them all – thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, choline, lycopene, and betaine. Also, watermelon is said by the National Watermelon Promotion Board to contain more lycopene than any other vegetable or fruit. Watermelon has such potential health benefits as asthma prevention, reduction of high blood pressure, digestive regulation, inflammation reduction, and healthy hair and skin promotion.
