Some of the participants were given a placebo pill, while others were given the actual spice. Those who took the spice found that they had a decrease in indigestion and heartburn.

Another study that dealt with the effects of turmeric on bypass surgery patients found that those who did have bypass surgery and did not ingest the spice were more likely to have a heart attack days later. During the study, some patients were given curcumin which derives from turmeric, while others were given only a placebo pill. Those who had the placebo pill, 30% of them experienced a heart attack. The results of this study showed that turmeric was responsible for helping to prevent heart attacks in bypass patients. Again, turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties can help prevent heart attacks.
